The Samsung Digimax S600 digital camera features a Samsung SHD (high definition) 5.8 ~ 17.4 mm (35 mm equivalent: 35 ~ 105 mm) optical zoom lens.
The 3x optical zoom when combined with the 5x digital zoom will achieve a total 15x zoom. The large 2.4”, 112k-megapixel LCD monitor offers superb image quality for both photography and image playback.
Images can be played back by simply pressing the Play/Printer button on the back of the camera and can be viewed even when the camera is switched off. The user can check the detail of the shots taken during playback by using the 10x monitor zoom.
Built-in Memory The S600 offers three image quality settings, Super Fine, Fine or Normal and 5 resolution settings from 2592x1944 down to 1024x768.
It is equipped with a 20MB built-in memory which allows the user to save pictures without the need for a memory card. Images can then be easily transferred from the internal memory to an external Secure Digital (SD) memory card. The SD card slot will accept memory cards up to 1 GB and can be used in place of the internal memory.
Images can also be transferred to a PC via the special Samsung dedicated cable. The camera supports USB 2.0 transfer rate for very fast download speeds. The built-in memory also provides another useful function as a voice recorder for up to 1 hour.
Auto Macro Function plus Macro to 5 cm The Digimax S600 has an Auto Macro function that automatically adjusts shooting distance and focus. To have the camera automatically adjust distance and focus from between 5 cm to infinity simply press the Macro button to obtain crystal clear images regardless of their shooting range.
Convenient Mode Dial The family-friendly and conveniently placed Mode Dial on the top of the camera allows for fingertip control. The Mode Dial conveniently locates the Auto function for easy every day use, the Program function for a little more control and the Manual function. This camera is one of the few that offer a Manual operation facility within this product category range.
Other features include the Night, Portrait and Children modes making it easier to get great family shots. The Night mode also incorporates the slow flash synchronization setting to capture both the subject and the lights behind. When using this mode the camera should be supported by a tripod or similar device.
The Portrait mode is most suitable for taking photos of one or two people. This setting opens the aperture and narrows the depth of field to enable the user to emphasize a subject by putting its surroundings into soft focus. It can also be used in conjunction with the 4 different Highlight modes.
The Red Eye Reduction mode is also activated automatically for low light photos. The Children mode, with its open aperture and fast shutter speeds, lets you ‘freeze’ children in fast moving action shots.
The dial also allows switching between the SCENE and Movie modes.
Special Effects Button The Digimax S600 has special effect functions that give the user a shooting experience beyond conventional photo taking. The Special Effect functions offered by simply touching the E (Effects) Button include: Colour Effect, giving the user a variety of colours, including B/W, Sepia, Blue, Red, Green or Negative; four Highlight settings to keep the subject or subjects in sharp focus while putting the rest of the image into soft focus; Photo Frame, allowing the user to choose from nine different types of photo frame and then shoot their subject within them; and Composite Shot allows the user take 2-4 shots, and save them into a single file.
