Billed as the slimmest clamshell phone in the world, the Samsung D830 is just 9.9mm thick, a feature that also earns it the rather odd name of "Ultra Edition 9.9".
The SGH-D830 has an impressive set of features in a very compact handset. There's a large 2.3" 240x320 pixel TFT display in 262,000 colours, a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, EDGE, 80Mb of internal memory with microSD/TransFlash expansion, TV outpiut and Bluetooth. All of this fits into an 85 grams phone measuring just 103x54x9.9mm.
The software on the Samsung D830 includes a multimedia player that can handle MP3, AAC, AAC+ and WMA audio plus MPEG4 and H.263 video.
On the outside of the D830 is a 96x16 pixel greyscale display. It's unusual to see such a small panel on the outside of a Samsung, but it certainly keeps the weight down.
The keypad does look a little like the RAZR, plus there's a distinctive lip at the bottom of the keypad which also looks a little bit RAZR-like. On the outside though, the D830 does manage to look distinctive. In the photographs, the SGH-D830 has a black casing, but Samsung say that it will be available in a variety of patterns and colours.
It's an impressive looking handset that manages to combine a sophisticated feature set in a very compact design, and this time Samsung have even managed to make the D830 look a little more distinctive than the rest of their range.
