The Nokia Asha 501.1 was released in 2013 in the month of June. The phone was released as a low segment device, and was made to appeal to a larger number of audience. The device was made available in various colors, such as Bright Green, Bright Red, Yellow, Black, Cyan and White.

The device was released with Nokia Asha software platform 1.0, further upgradable to v1.4. The Nokia Asha 501.1 has an internal storage of 128 MB for installing applications and 64 MB of RAM for running applications. The storage of the device can be expanded up to 32 GB via the use of an external MicroSD card for installing additional media, such as video or audio. The phone is packed with a Li-ion 1200 mAh capacity battery for a prolonged battery life.

It can also record videos of 320p at 15 fps. There is no secondary front-facing camera available in the device for clicking selfies and recording videos.
