The device was released with Android Kitkat v4.4.2 OS, upgradeable to Lollipop v5.0, with a planned upgrade to Marshmallow v5.0. The HTC One (M8) is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801, while the processor is Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400. The graphical processing unit of the device is powered by Adreno 330. The device has an internal storage of 16/32 GB for installing applications and 2 GB of RAM for running applications. The storage is expandable up to 128 GB via the use of an external SD card for installing additional media, such as video or audio. The phone is packed with a Li-ion 2600 mAh capacity battery for a prolonged battery life.

The HTC One (M8) features Dual 4 MP rear cameras, capable of clicking photographs of resolutionof 2688õ1520 pixels. The camera of the device is good, and is able to capture fine amount of details. It can also record videos of 1080p at 60 fps and 720p at 120 fps. There is a secondary 5 MP front-facing camera available in the device for clicking selfies and recording videos of 1080p at 30 fps.
