The device was released with the Android Jellybean v4.1.1 OS, upgradeable to v4.2.2, with a planned upgrade to Kitkat v4.4.2. It is backed with a Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon 600 chipset and Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor. The Adreno 230 powers the GPU of the device. The HTC Butterfly comes with an internal storage of 16 GB for installing applications and 2 GB of RAM for running applications and multi-tasking between them. The memory is expandable up to 32 GB via the use of an external SD card for installing media such as audio, video etc. The phone is packed with a Li-ion 2020 mAh capacity battery for a prolonged battery life.

The HTC Butterfly features an 8 MP rear camera, capable of clicking photographs of resolution 3264 x 2448 pixels. The camera of the device is great, and it captures fine amount of details. It can also record videos of 1080p at 30fps. There is a secondary front-facing 2.1 MP camera available in the device for clicking selfies.
